Joe & Dawn Krones
Joe Krones was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, where he began his singing journey at the age of 10. Introduced to barbershop harmony by his parents, Jim and Judy Krones, Joe sang with the Peoria Barbershop Chorus and began his path as a frontline director at just 16 years old—a role he would hold for the next decade.
Joe’s quartet experience is extensive and distinguished. He first sang with Backstage Applause alongside his brother, Jimmy, and went on to perform with several award-winning quartets, earning five District Championships with Bravo!, Cheers!, Renaissance, Stolen Basses, and Old School. His lifelong dream was realized in 2011 when Old School was crowned International Gold Medalists.
Joe later served as Music Director of the renowned West Towns Chorus in Lombard, Illinois, leading the chorus for six years to an Illinois District Championship and three International appearances. He currently sings bass with The Vocal Majority Chorus and is a member of Overdrive, the 2023 Southwestern District Men’s Quartet and Overall Champions. Joe is also the proud father of two “barbershop brats,” Heather Havens and Chase Krones.
Dawn Krones has been an active member of Sweet Adelines International for over 20 years. A second-generation barbershopper, her love for music began alongside her mother in the Sooner Sensations Show Chorus. Dawn’s musical and dance upbringing instilled both a deep knowledge of barbershop and a strong passion for sharing music through singing and movement.
Dawn has sung in and choreographed for several choruses, including OK City Chorus, Tulsa Metro Sound Chorus, and Wichita Chorus. She has competed internationally with OK City Chorus and in the Harmony Classic International Competition with Wichita Chorus, most recently with OK City earning 9th place. As a tenor, Dawn has performed with multiple accomplished quartets, including Couture (2018 Region 25 Champions), Wildfire! (2023 Region 25 Champion Quartet), and her current quartet, First Class, all of whom have competed at the international level. She is also the proud mother of four singing children, one of whom sings and serves in a leadership role within the chorus.
Joe and Dawn were married in 2021, forming a passionate and highly knowledgeable barbershop partnership. Today, they travel as coaches for choruses and quartets, with Dawn specializing in visual design and performance and Joe focusing on sound and musical expression. Together, they share their expertise and enthusiasm with barbershop organizations throughout the region and bring their passion to us every Monday night. We are incredibly fortunate to have them as our co-directing team.
